Autera vs AutoChain

The AutoChain alternative
with native apps and a free plan.

AutoChain is a capable cloud system for UK garages: self-serve, monthly rolling, quick to start — much of what we believe in too. The differences that matter: Autera ships native iPhone and Android apps rather than a browser tab, starts free rather than at £69.99 + VAT, and includes in its plans several things AutoChain prices as add-ons.

WHY AUTERA

Why UK garages choose Autera

Apps, not tabs

AutoChain runs in the browser on any device. Autera ships native iPhone, iPad and Android apps built for the ramp: two-tap status changes, photos straight to the job, invoicing from the sofa. The web portal covers the office.

Start free, not at £69.99

Autera Solo is free forever with no card, and Starter is £29. AutoChain’s entry point is £69.99 + VAT before any add-ons. Trying Autera costs you half an hour.

Included, not added on

Vehicle health checks and email MOT reminders are part of Autera’s £79 Workshop plan. On AutoChain, health checks ride the £49.99 HaynesPro add-on and SMS reminders cost £15 more, everything plus VAT.

Both set up fast — one keeps going

AutoChain deserves credit for self-serve setup, and so does Autera: DVLA fills the vehicle from a reg and the first job runs inside half an hour. From there Autera adds native apps, Stripe payments and accounting sync without a call.

ADAS certificates built in

PAS 1880-compliant ADAS calibration certificates are included on Workshop, with technician IMI numbers on every cert. AutoChain does not advertise ADAS certification.

No lock-in on either side

Both products are monthly rolling — we will not pretend otherwise. Autera adds a free-forever plan and full data export at any time, so even trying it commits you to nothing.

QUESTIONS

Common questions

Both publish pricing, which is rarer than it should be. AutoChain is £69.99 + VAT/month core, with SMS reminders at £15 + VAT and HaynesPro at £49.99 + VAT. Autera is Solo free, Starter £29, Workshop £79 covering up to 6 technicians with health checks, online booking and email MOT reminders included.

AutoChain is fully cloud-based and works in the browser on any device, but advertises no native apps. Autera ships native iPhone, iPad and Android apps alongside the web portal — full apps, not companions: jobs, photos, quotes, invoices and payments all work from the phone.

HaynesPro. If you want HaynesPro technical data and HaynesPro-powered health checks inside your garage software today, AutoChain offers that as a £49.99 + VAT add-on. Technical-data integrations are on Autera’s roadmap. AutoChain’s loyalty dashboard is also a genuinely original touch.

Yes — Solo is free forever with no card, and paid plans carry a 14-day no-card trial. Since both products are monthly rolling, running them side by side for a fortnight costs one month of AutoChain and nothing of Autera.

Export your customers and vehicles as CSV and Autera’s importer auto-maps common column names in minutes — or email the file to [email protected] and we will load it for you, free.
